Of course.

At the end of 2007, in the context of their climate campaign, twelve Greenpeace activists have been arrested after a non-violent action taken place in Brindisi, on the biggest coal plant of Italy, owned by ENEL. Big deal, you’d say, except that these activists have been *banned* from the city for the next three years. Easier to do it with them than ban SUVs of course.
Given the “dangerous social nature” of the subjects, the organisation has decided to show their mug shots. However, in a pure spirit of public engagement, Greenpeace gives you the opportunity to be a Climate Bandit too, something you will be proud to attach to your next CV.
So, are you a climate bandit or not?
A drama is unfolding and you can be part of its solution.
“On the evening of April 21st, the creature with the most votes will be subjected to the popular interrogation technique in front of a live audience at an undisclosed New York location. A high-stakes democratic election between dog and man in which the loser will be publicly waterboarded”
Although we, environmentalists, are always on the side of the puppies, this time our friend Wafaa needs votes to keep from getting water-boarded, can you vote for him?
I couldn’t think of a better opportunity to post an entry after two months hiatus. Greenpeace and its photographer Daniel Beltra have won the Pictures of the Year International award in the category Global Vision Award. Check out the cool presentation the webbies at Greenpeace have prepared and, if you’re a virtual citizen, drop a line of congratulations to Daniel on Facebook.
One of the most recent ads about Climate Change comes from Greenpeace Israel. They’ve prepared a trailer for a fictitious movie called “The end of the World”, presenting it as another disaster movie.
As in most of the Greenpeace online campaigns, there’s a call for action towards the end of the video.
(Posted on Osocio).

Osocio will be *the* place where to find examples of social advertising, NGO ad campaigns, related marketing events, etc. So, head there and read Marc’s introduction to Osocio.

Ok, I’m officially annoyed by the events happening in the environmental movement. Everybody wants to jump on the green bandwagon: Hollywood, media, singers, politicians and oil companies of course. And now? Green babes! Let me introduce you: “Miss Earth - Beauties for a Cause”.
Not that I dislike pageants or beautiful women… but setting up a whole circus with the excuse of saving the planet sounds a lot like another way to be on top of media headlines. In all fairness, the Miss Earth Foundation has been doing this event for a few years, but this time they thought to leave the niche and go mainstream: new brand, more photos on the Net and, above all, environmentally-concious sponsors such as Nestle’ (!).
What can I say, it makes me a bit sad, maybe I’m jealous that bikinis manage to communicate the environmental message more (still to be proved) successfully than people who worked in the field for decades. Or maybe I’m just angry because, while once I was asked repeatedly to chain myself to gates and mooring lines, these days I don’t even get a visitor pass at the local Miss Green Neighborhood.
btw: I could have done my PR exercise too, by posting picts of this years’ Miss Earth, but that would have been a cheap shot to bring more visitors to this website. However, I feel anxiety in the air, so here’s a photo gallery for those who want to step out of their spiritual life for a moment.
Or at least its employees do…
